The UN agency was established soon after World War II, in 1946, at the initiative of delegates to the United Nations, including the Polish delegate, Ludwik Rajchman, to assist children in the war-torn Europe.
Today, UNICEF is present in over 190 countries, providing mothers and children with humanitarian and development aid.
UNICEF focuses on HIV/AIDS prevention, gender equality, access to education and protecting children from violence.
