Permanent Secretariat brings three Nobel Peace Laureates to meet influential lawyers in New York

Through their own testimonies and direct experience, Shirin Ebadi, Leymah Gbowee and Tawakkol Karman will highlight contemporary issues in which they have played critically important roles and for which they have received Nobel Peace Prizes. There will be a particular emphasis on the centrality of the rule of law for peace and sustainable development. All three have faced extreme threats of violence and responded with non-violence — their heroism and clarity of purpose and determination in public service is inspiring. This will be a time to focus on why human rights, law, sustainable development and addressing weapons at both the international and local level is so important for the daily lives of billions of people.
