PARTNERS IN PEACE

The Permanent Secretariat of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates is delighted to announce a five-year partnership with Jornada de Derechos Humanos, to promote mutually beneficial relations between the two institutions.

Jornada de Derechos Humanos is a non-profit, multidisciplinary, independent, nonpartisan organization, founded in 2013 in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. Their focus is education and training for young people in Human Rights, through peace strategies.

“Our mission is to create, together with young people, safe spaces for discussion of human rights problems to contribute to the construction of a more just, informed and democratic society, in which human dignity is fully respected, free from human insecurity, inequality, violence and misinformation.”

The mission and values of Jornada de Derechos Humanos are in perfect alignment with those of the Permanent Secretariat and its Youth Program, established in 2012. The World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates’ Leading By Example Program recognizes the important role that youth play in promoting messages of peace, and provides educational opportunities for young leaders to engage in dialogues about peace and human rights.

Among others, the partnership with the Permanent Secretariat will give Jornada de Derechos Humanos the opportunity to bring a delegation of youth activists, students and academics from universities and youth organizations to the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates. They will also have the opportunity to organise a Youth Workshop or PeaceLab.

Additional activities will include outreach to universities in México and Latin America to promote and implement the Summit’s official Youth Program, Leading By Example.

There will be an ongoing, shared focus on youth leadership and peace education, with the development of common educational leadership programs and the opportunity to organise joint events with the participation of Nobel Peace Laureates at partner universities in Mexico and Latin America.

The Permanent Secretariat looks forward to a long and fruitful partnership in the service of peace education for young leaders in Mexico and Latin America.
